Arundale School’s ICT club has collected over £60 for the World Wildlife Fund to help endangered Artic Polar Bears. The club, called ‘Our Wonderful World’ chose a ‘Pennies for Polar bears’ theme for their fundraising initiative. The project involved compiling fact files using a wide range of computer skills and creating PowerPoint presentations. Other initiatives included designing posters that were put up in school and designing ‘Artic’ collection envelopes. The money raised was used to adopt three Norwegian Svalbard polar bears named Tarn, Sparkle and Poofle by the children.
The WWF sent adoption packs containing a print of the Svalbard bears, a polar bear fact booklet, a personalised adoption certificate and a guide to ‘green’ living. A newsletter, sent out three times a year, will keep pupils up to date with the latest news on the conservation programme. The bear adoption scheme is run by the World Wildlife Fund giving bears a more promising future and tackling some of the world’s biggest conservation challenges. The adopted bears are fitted with satellite radio collars which track changes and patterns in their behaviour. Currently more than a quarter of polar bear populations are in decline with scientists warning if current global warming trends continue, polar bears may become extinct within 100 years.
Kelly Davis, Year II teacher, who runs the after school club added;
‘The quality of the work the ICT group produced was superb; the children worked really hard practising lots of new skills. I am a keen conservationist and am delighted so much money has been raised for this worthwhile cause. We are sticking to the polar bear theme for the rest of the term learning how to make animated films.’ |

Here are links to various documents that will help us to understand the proposals and plans for transport in Pulborough. There are Adobe pdf files and Word documents. I have decided not to reproduce the content on the site, simply because there's so much! If you want to look at any of the files you will need either Adobe Reader or a Microsoft Word Viewer . There's so much information here, that, in isolation, it may be confusing. I heartily suggest going to see the exhibition at the Village Hall either this evening (Friday 26th) or tomorrow daytime. That way you can express your opinions face to face and see the diagrams full size. |

Arundel Castle
 An excellent place to visit, Arundel Castle is the seat of The Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. Arundel Castle has been open to visitors seasonally for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England, each having its own unique place in history and is home to priceless works of art. Go and see paintings and furniture, tapestries and stained glass, china and clocks, sculpture and carving, heraldry and armour in stunning room settings.
Bignor Roman Villa
 See outstanding mosaic floors in the Roman Villa at Bignor. Situated at the foot of the downs, near the tiny village of Bignor, the Villa is in a permanent state of improvement. Take a picnic to eat in the villa grounds when you've seen all the beautiful floors.
Petworth Park
 The vast late 17th-century mansion of Petworth House is set in a beautiful 283-hectare (700-acre) deer park, landscaped by 'Capability' Brown and immortalised in Turner's paintings. It is open for very long opening hours so you can walk around even when the house is closed.

Do you mind having to shop over a wide area? If you had to shop in Willmers, Hamilton Cole and Sainsbury's would you walk? If not, how much petrol are you using? Do you prefer to shop in larger towns? Have you switched to internet shopping?

Are there enough places for the young folk in the village to go? Do we need more focus on the teenagers that live here? Is there really any difference between todays youngsters and those of years ago? Were you as good as gold in your youth?

Fancy yourself as a good writer? How about describing life in the village for us all to share. Any subject of interest is acceptable. Be controversial!

Have Your Say
News from the Pulborough Traders Group (or not)
Firstly, I suspect the Pulborough Traders Group are no more as I've had no updates for months. I can confirm that MBC Office will be opening a new village Post Office soon. Denise tells me that she has finally received the necessary license. I guess that means a lot of upheaval for Denise and the team at MBC so good luck during the change period! Over the past year or so the Lower Street area has changed a great deal. The old Post Office remains empty, as does the small shop next door to Boomerang (ex-Dales Barbers, for those who haven't noticed). The old pharmacy has become an office and the estate agents in the centre of the village has transformed into a dentist. I'll add here my twopennorth on the possibility of attracting entrepreneurs to the village. I have considered the possibility of opening a shop in Pulborough so have given this some thought. I think that from a positive perspective there are plenty of people who are keen to support local businesses rather than travel to bigger towns, or shop on the internet. However, it is our responsibility as a community to make it easier for customers to shop locally - not harder. Parking in Pulborough village could be improved. Villagers mostly know about the wheel system in the car park but visitors are quite likely to receive a parking ticket as thanks for stopping by. That's presumably why so many lazy good for nothings park on the pavement outside the shops and Post Sorting Office. Could we not have some kind of leniency for a first offence! And no, I don't have an axe to grind, I've never received a parking ticket in Pulborough! Are there any grants available for small business owners? Loans available at reasonable amounts? Rate rebates from the local authority? Who knows? I'm always hearing on the news about the help that the government put into small businesses. In reality I can't find any advice on the subject either from the local authority websites, or from my own bank - I won't name them, but suffice it to say that my Business Manager abandoned me within 6 months of starting up in business (6 years ago). Any views, comments, replies or observations are welcome.
