I have been asked by STAND - (Stop The Adversane North Heath Develeopment) - to make you all aware of a petition that is being collated for submission to Horsham District Council. As a reminder of the issue: 'Around 4000 new homes and other uses’ on 155 hectares of land within 480 hectares between Adversane and North Heath means an infrastructure necessary for the development of a New Community with a population of around 10–12,000 (twice the size of Pulborough or Billingshurst)' Much more information on this subject can be found at www.saveourcountryside.com in addition to the online version of the petition . If you want to support this then please take the time to visit the site as soon as possible. Members of the STAND group will be around and about in Billingshurst and Pulborough over the coming days and weeks. You can also sign the petition directly with any of them. |

What a rotten start to the year! I guess somebody must be enjoying the scenes, or playing in the snow, but hasn't it all gone on just a little too long? I took these pictures on my phone after the second lot, and before the new lot fell today. If anyone has any better shots (and I'm sure you do), send them to me and you'll be famous(ish)!

At 1 p.m. on Sunday, 22nd November Santa will arrive at Pulborough Garden Centre ready to take up residence at South Downs Light Railway. He will be arriving, accompanied by his elves, in the Fast Response Vehicle of the Sussex Air Ambulance, the charity which the Railway is supporting this Christmas After he has arrived there will be music and children's entertainment in the Garden Centre and free train rides for all. The fast response vehicle is used when weather prevents the take off of the helicopter. The picture shows the vehicle and the helicopter at its launch in April of this year. |

Arundel Castle
An excellent place to visit, Arundel Castle is the seat of The Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. Arundel Castle has been open to visitors seasonally for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England, each having its own unique place in history and is home to priceless works of art. Go and see paintings and furniture, tapestries and stained glass, china and clocks, sculpture and carving, heraldry and armour in stunning room settings.
Bignor Roman Villa
See outstanding mosaic floors in the Roman Villa at Bignor. Situated at the foot of the downs, near the tiny village of Bignor, the Villa is in a permanent state of improvement. Take a picnic to eat in the villa grounds when you've seen all the beautiful floors.
Petworth Park
The vast late 17th-century mansion of Petworth House is set in a beautiful 283-hectare (700-acre) deer park, landscaped by 'Capability' Brown and immortalised in Turner's paintings. It is open for very long opening hours so you can walk around even when the house is closed.

Do you mind having to shop over a wide area? If you had to shop in Willmers, Hamilton Cole and Sainsbury's would you walk? If not, how much petrol are you using? Do you prefer to shop in larger towns? Have you switched to internet shopping?
-
Are there enough places for the young folk in the village to go? Do we need more focus on the teenagers that live here? Is there really any difference between todays youngsters and those of years ago? Were you as good as gold in your youth?
-
Fancy yourself as a good writer? How about describing life in the village for us all to share. Any subject of interest is acceptable. Be controversial!

Quote of the Week
- Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow.
- Robert Frost (1874 - 1963), Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Make sure you look at the Notice Board section under the Local Info heading. It will include any items that are short term in nature. News of upcoming events, job vacancies, classes etc. will be placed there so keep an eye on it! Anything very important will get an article on the front page too.

Have Your Say
News from the Pulborough Traders Group (or not)
Apparently the Pulborough Traders Group have been re-enlivened though I've still had no updates for months. Not a very proactive team apparently! I can confirm that MBC Office will be opening a new village Post Office soon. Denise tells me that she has finally received the necessary license. I guess that means a lot of upheaval for Denise and the team at MBC so good luck during the change period! In the meantime I had an article on the site a couple of weeks ago suggesting a consultation. No I don't understand either! The old Post Office is soon to become a kitchen showroom. I don't know who the new tenant is but it'll be good to see some occupation. The small shop next door to Boomerang is still empty but the old surgery has become a funeral directors and the shop next to Willmers (which I think was an office 'til recently) will be a curtain place (I think). Please correct any errors in this column as you see fit.
