Rights of Way Improvements
Written by Dean Smith
Saturday, 07 August 2010

Works are now underway to improve the surfaces and drainage of the existing Public Rights of Way at New Place Nursery, Old Rectory Lane and Pocket Park as set out in the Pulborough Village Transport Plan.

The works have commenced at New Place Nursery and new stone surfaces are presently being laid and the existing ditches cleared out. Steps will also be provided up the steep slope from the railway line and new gates and fences provided as necessary. Once the New Place Road public rights of way have been completed then the works will move to the narrow section of Old Rectory Lane where the surface and drainage will be improved with and new bollards installed to prevent unauthorised vehicular access.

The Pocket Park footways will be the last to be improved following the installation of a new wooden footbridge to replace the existing culvert as this often gets silted up in the winter and causes flooding. All the works are being funded using existing developer contributions.

Sports Centre Burglaries
Written by Dean Smith
Sunday, 01 August 2010

I have just been told of a series of thefts that have taken place at local Sports Clubs, and at Sports and social clubs. The following premises have been burgled since mid June:

13th June Bowling Club, Bishopric, Horsham
20th June Pulborough Rugby Club
26th June Rudgwick Sports and Social Club
28th June Horsham Rugby Club
15th July Southwater Sports Club
23rd July Oak Barn Restaurant (Golf club)
27th July Paxhill Golf Club
29th July Rookwood Golf Club.

In many of the breaks, it appears that the offenders have had knowledge of the premises, and know where safes are located. They also appear to know where the hard drives for CCTV systems are located and may have visited the premises before hand to gain such information.

It is probable that those responsible are using a vehicle. The purpose of this message is to raise your awareness of this series of burglaries, and to ask you to make sure that any suspicious activity at similar premises is reported to Sussex police as soon as possible.

If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years.

The March figures are up to the 26th.

I haven't updated these figures for a while so I was surprised that the numbers are now way over three times what they were 18 months ago. Woohoo!

Have Your Say

News from the Pulborough Traders Group (or not)

Apparently the Pulborough Traders Group have been re-enlivened though I've still had no updates for months. Not a very proactive team apparently!

I can confirm that MBC Office has opened a new village Post Office. The shop has been completely refurbished to take in the new activities and looks very smart. I hope everyone in the village starts using the Post Office again - perhaps some bigger signs would draw more attention?

The old Post Office become a kitchen showroom and the small shop next door to Boomerang is now a health food shop called beneficial Health. The shop next to Willmers is now a florist (that snuck up without my noticing) and a curtain place.

If any of the local traders would like me to add articles regarding their shops or establishments, just send them to me with a few pictures and get yourself a free ad! This is not just for Lower Street shops either. Those on Station Road or London Road are welcome too.
