Pupils from Arundale School in Pulborough excelled once again at this year’s Summer Entertainment. Over 300 parents, former pupils and friends, packed into West Chiltington Village Hall to watch the shows. Form I delivered a tremendous start with a lively rendition of Eddie the Penguin Saves the World! followed by Forms II & III’s, entertaining take on Alice through the Looking Glass with outstanding individual performances. With a brilliant supporting band, the older children sang, acted and danced their way through the sparkling score of Guys and Dolls with huge energy and superb acting. This outstanding annual event is produced by the dedicated team of teachers, parents and friends of the school.
Jane Thomas, Head of Music, accompanied by music teachers and some ex pupils led the stunning musical score. All the actors sang with great confidence with many braving solo performances much to the delight of the audience. Authentic costumes and precise choreography, by Lucy Cooper along with Ian Mayer’s imaginative set design enhanced the entertainment. Refreshments and a delicious light supper were provided by the parents’ committee during the interval.
Emily Tuson, who played Sarah Brown, and is winner of the Senior Acting and Singing Cup added:
“Everyone in the school takes part and it’s great to all be acting together. It was really fun especially the dancing routines and singing. The teachers are so helpful and give us lots of encouragement.” |

It is proposed that a new Post Office will be opening soon in Pulborough. It will be in MBC Office, just along from the original shop. I think we all agreed (ages ago) that a new Post Office was a good thing and wished Denise and the team well in their endeavours. I've just been asked to publish a consultation document that you could respond to. I'll quote from the document so you have some info regarding the new store. If you want the full info, download the document here. The following is an extract from the download. "We want you and our customers to understand why we are considering this move, the facilities the new service will offer and how to contact us with your views. In preparing our plan, we have considered information specific to the local area. This includes access to public transport, the route and access to the new location, local population figures and other facilities available in the area. This branch closed on a temporary basis in September 2007 following the resignation of the subpostmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for the provision of Post Office services. I am therefore pleased to inform you that a new agent has been appointed, providing us with the opportunity to incorporate Post Office services into the local stationery store in Pulborough. Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term. The relocation of Pulborough Post Office service allows us to restore access to Post Office services in this area. Customers would benefit from the following facilities at the new service: • Brand new serving counter, with low level facilities for those in wheelchairs: • Open plan format, offering retail services alongside Post Office products and services" |

Are there enough places for the young folk in the village to go? Do we need more focus on the teenagers that live here? Is there really any difference between todays youngsters and those of years ago? Were you as good as gold in your youth?

Quote of the Week
- If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years.

The March figures are up to the 26th. I haven't updated these figures for a while so I was surprised that the numbers are now way over three times what they were 18 months ago. Woohoo!
Have Your Say
News from the Pulborough Traders Group (or not)
Apparently the Pulborough Traders Group have been re-enlivened though I've still had no updates for months. Not a very proactive team apparently! I can confirm that MBC Office has opened a new village Post Office. The shop has been completely refurbished to take in the new activities and looks very smart. I hope everyone in the village starts using the Post Office again - perhaps some bigger signs would draw more attention? The old Post Office become a kitchen showroom and the small shop next door to Boomerang is now a health food shop called beneficial Health. The shop next to Willmers is now a florist (that snuck up without my noticing) and a curtain place. If any of the local traders would like me to add articles regarding their shops or establishments, just send them to me with a few pictures and get yourself a free ad! This is not just for Lower Street shops either. Those on Station Road or London Road are welcome too.
