Here are links to various documents that will help us to understand the proposals and plans for transport in Pulborough. There are Adobe pdf files and Word documents. I have decided not to reproduce the content on the site, simply because there's so much!

If you want to look at any of the files you will need either Adobe Reader or a Microsoft Word Viewer .

As usual, if anyone would like to comment on any of the proposals, or highlight any concerns, feel free to raise them here.

There's so much information here, that, in isolation, it may be confusing. I heartily suggest going to see the exhibition at the Village Hall either this evening (Friday 26th) or tomorrow daytime. That way you can express your opinions face to face and see the diagrams full size.

Nick Herbert visits the Wey & Arun Canal
Written by Dean Smith
Monday, 22 June 2009
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert paid a visit to the Wey and Arun Canal on Friday morning (19 June) to see how parts of the historic waterway are being brought back into use.

Mr Herbert was met by Wey and Arun Canal Trust Chairman Sally Schupke and Trustee Peter Foulger who showed off the work that has taken place to restore the Loxwood crossing.

The MP, who recently accepted an invitation to become a Vice President of the Trust, was also taken on a short cruise aboard the Trust’s new electric powered canal boat – the Wiggonholt – and heard about the Trust’s long-term plans to extend the canal.

Nick & Friends on the WiggonholtThe Wey and Arun Canal Society (later Trust) was formed in 1970 by a small group of local enthusiasts and is an entirely voluntary organisation, relying on the support of its members and friends, as well as the generosity of local businesses and the goodwill of local councils.

Today, it has around 2,600 members from the UK and overseas, with members from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan and Singapore.

Much of the Wey and Arun Canal, which runs for 23 miles through Surrey and West Sussex, is no longer navigable.  It once provided a waterway link from London, via the rivers Wey and Arun, to Littlehampton on the Sussex coast.

The Trust is hoping to bring the full length of the canal back into use and has several ongoing restoration projects.  Last month (9 May), the Trust celebrated the completion of a three-year, £1.8 million project to reopen the waterway under Loxwood High Street.

Nick Herbert commented: “I love canals and it was a huge pleasure to visit the Wey and Arun Canal again on Friday morning.  I attended the official opening of the Loxwood crossing last month and I was fascinated to return and take a closer look at some of the work that the Trust has been doing.  I’m honoured to have been asked to serve as a Vice President of the Trust and look forward to supporting their work for many years to come.”

Mr Herbert added: “I was especially interested to hear about the Trust’s plans to restore more of the canal, part of which runs through my Arundel and South Downs constituency.  Let’s hope that, one day, the Trust fulfils its dream and manages to open up the canal all the way from London down to the coast.  Perhaps in the future the MP will be able to make a journey from Westminster to Arundel by boat!”

Pulborough Village Transport Plan - Update
Written by Paul Addison
Thursday, 04 June 2009
Following it’s formation in December 2008, The Pulborough Village Transport Plan Group has now identified a number of highways and transport issues in the village and these will be shown at the Draft Village Transport Plan public exhibition in the Village Hall on the 26th June (between 6pm and 10pm) and the 27th June (between 9am and 3pm). For those of you who cannot attend, it is proposed that the exhibition plans will be available to view on-line on this website.

A Pulborough Residents Survey questionnaire was also distributed at the recent Pulborough Parish Open Meeting encouraging residents to provide feedback on the Draft Village Transport Plan, or highlight any other highways and transport issues in the village which may not be included in the Draft Plan. Comments should be returned to the Parish Office by the 17th July where they will then be collated for further consideration by the group. It is intended that the priorities identified by the group will be incorporated into the future Pulborough Community Action Plan which is currently under preparation.

If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years.

The March figures are up to the 26th.

I haven't updated these figures for a while so I was surprised that the numbers are now way over three times what they were 18 months ago. Woohoo!

News from the Pulborough Traders Group (or not)

Apparently the Pulborough Traders Group have been re-enlivened though I've still had no updates for months. Not a very proactive team apparently!

I can confirm that MBC Office has opened a new village Post Office. The shop has been completely refurbished to take in the new activities and looks very smart. I hope everyone in the village starts using the Post Office again - perhaps some bigger signs would draw more attention?

The old Post Office become a kitchen showroom and the small shop next door to Boomerang is now a health food shop called beneficial Health. The shop next to Willmers is now a florist (that snuck up without my noticing) and a curtain place.

If any of the local traders would like me to add articles regarding their shops or establishments, just send them to me with a few pictures and get yourself a free ad! This is not just for Lower Street shops either. Those on Station Road or London Road are welcome too.
